I was born in an emergency operating room, moments from a c-section, I was pulled out by forceps. For years I carried pain I thought was just mine, a neck pain I'd had for as long as I could remember. It wasn't until I was an adult, sitting in a chiropractor's chair, that someone connected it to the way I entered the world. That was the first crack, my body had been holding the story of my birth the entire time, I just didn't have the language for it yet.
Every woman carries an imprint from how she was born. Whether that be overly traumatic, fairly typical or something she's never thought to question. That crack became a descent for me. I started researching birth imprints, learning how the way we're born shapes our psyche, nervous system, sense of safety and relationship to power, for a lifetime.
Then I got pregnant. And everything I'd been studying stopped being theory. I learnt to understand my own maternal lineage, the fear passed down through generations of women who'd been told their bodies couldn't be trusted to birth. For me, meeting that fear meant taking full responsibility for my own birth, in my own way. I chose to birth unassisted, not because it's the right path for every woman, but because it was the one that let me build the trust I'd never been handed.
Whether you're preparing to birth, healing from how you did, or untangling the fear handed down to you. This work is the same: finding your way back to a body you can actually trust, whatever that looks like for you.
Here's what I now know, on the other side of that trust: everything changes. The fear that used to run my show is loved and does not have to be noisy to be heard. I no longer brace for what might go wrong and instead listen to what's actually true in the present. I mother from steadiness and intuition instead of anxiety, when you've done the work of meeting your own fear instead of passing it down unprocessed, this is reality. You make decisions, about birth, about your body, about your children, from a place of ease.
I'm not here to tell you what trust should look like. I'm here to help you find yours.
My mission is for women and couples to find the birth choices that feel most aligned to them, so they, too, can feel this power and self-authority. We deserve more than the common narrative of "at least you got a healthy baby." We need to create a healthy mama-baby dyad to set ourselves up for motherhood, and this can only happen when we are given the space to bloom.
I hold space for women to explore their own depths and ideas. This work fills my heart, and seeing the transformation and clarity women gain when given uninterrupted space is inspiring.
I spend my days mothering our son, living in the Northern Rivers of Australia. We parent in alignment with the aware parenting method, based on the work of developmental psychologist Aletha Solter, and practice elimination communication to support our child's autonomy.
